Bombardier Aerospace said Thursday it has signed a deal to sell eight Q400 NextGen turboprop airliners to Ethiopian Airlines for US$242 million.

The aircraft manufacturing wing of Montreal-based Bombardier Inc. said options for four more of the Dash 8/Q-Series aircraft could increase the total value of the deal to $366 million.

Ethiopian Airlines operates a fleet of jet and turboprop aircraft to 33 African cities and a total of 20 international points in the Middle East, Asia, Europe and North America.

With the deal, 330 of Bombardier's Q400/Q400 NextGen have been ordered, with 210 delivered as of July 31, 2008.

Bombardier shares were up 26 cents at $3.69 in midday trading at the Toronto Stock Exchange.
