NEW YORK–U.S. retail sales online rose 1 per cent on Black Friday, the traditional start to the holiday shopping season, to $534 million (U.S.), tracking firm comScore said yesterday.

The firm has forecast Web holiday sales to be flat this year at $29.2 billion, compared with a 19 per cent rise in 2007.

But holiday sales on the Web are expected to see their heaviest day today, when consumers make online purchases at the office to take advantage of better Internet connections, comScore said.
