LA BOSTONNAIS, QUE. – About 80 people were forced from their homes Wednesday after heavy rains caused minor flooding and mudslides.

No one was injured, officials said.

About 65 millimetres of rain fell over a six-hour period in the Upper Mauricie region.

"A combination of large accumulations of rain during the evening and night and runoff water from the mountains has resulted in mudslides and forest debris so that homes were flooded," said Alain Michaud, a spokesperson for the nearby town of La Tuque, where 12 homes were evacuated.

People either opted to return to their homes or sought shelter with the local fire department. A number of people stayed with relatives.

The cleanup is expected to take several days and authorities are monitoring water levels.
