A Toronto woman is under arrest after an alleged hammer attack on a TTC bus earlier today.

The incident happened on Grandravine Dr. near Driftwood Ave. around 11 a.m. An unidentified 23-year-old woman wearing a red wig boarded a TTC bus on route 108A and starting swinging a hammer, said Const. Tony Vella of Toronto Police.

Witnesses say she struck the female bus driver on the hands before being restrained and wrestled to the floor of the bus by a group of riders.

Two people sustained minor injuries in the tussle as they held the suspect down until police could attend and arrest her.

Vella says there is no clear motive for the attack and credits the other riders for preventing any further injury.

The driver sustained swelling to both hands and was taken to hospital for evaluation.
