A young man who police said drunkenly picked a fight with a group of men was stabbed in the abdomen and sent to hospital tonight.

Police were called to an area behind a schoolyard on Bedford Park Ave., in the area of Yonge St. and Lawrence Ave. W., after friends of the victim called police to report that he had been stabbed around 9:30 p.m.

"The victim was drunk, picked a fight with a bunch of guys," said Sgt. Louise Farrugia of 32 Division. The victim was with two friends, and the group of men consisted of seven or eight people, she said.

The victim, believed to be 19 or 20, received "superficial" stab wounds to his abdomen and was taken to Sunnybrook Hospital, police said. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

No arrests have been made.
