Ministry of Transportation officials have reopened Highway 400 near Bradford and deemed it “sound and safe,” a few hours after concrete fell from an overpass, onto northbound traffic.

Police arrived on scene shortly after 12:30 p.m. today after receiving a call that a car travelling northbound under the overpass had been hit by falling concrete, said OPP Const. Graham Williamson.

Provincial police say the concrete slab, which was about six inches in diameter, smashed through the driver-side window as the man was driving north on Highway 400 near Bradford.

The man suffered bruises, scrapes and cuts to his collarbone and was taken to a local hospital as a precautionary.

Hwy. 400 was reopened at around 4 p.m., after transportation workers chipped all the remaining concrete debris away from the overpass.
