A Peterborough man arrested in the kidnapping and sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl made a formal request for bail this morning.

Stanley Tippett, 32, is charged with abduction, sexual assault, sexual interference and a number of other offences.

Tippett was arrested Aug. 6, just hours after a Peterborough girl was abducted and driven to Courtice, in the Oshawa area, where she was assaulted in a schoolyard.

Tippett appeared by video in Peterborough court this morning and requested a bail hearing, after the proceedings were twice remanded at his request.

Tippett’s next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.

More charges were also laid against him this morning, including two counts of failing to stop at a stop sign and breaching a court order by contacting an individual on his no-contact list, according to the Peterborough Examiner.

Last week, Tippett's wife and mother alleged that he had called them repeatedly in the early hours of the morning.

Tippett was convicted of criminal harassment of a 21-year-old woman in 2005, and was a suspect in the 1999 murder of Toronto teen Sharmini Anandavel, although no charges were ever laid in that case.
