A Peterborough man arrested in the kidnapping and sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl made a formal request for bail yesterday.
But since Stanley Tippett's wife, mother and mistress are publicly renouncing him and refusing to post bail, it's unclear who will act as his sureties.
Tippett, 32, is charged with abduction, sexual assault, sexual interference and a number of other offences. He was arrested Aug. 6, just hours after a Peterborough girl was abducted and driven to Clarington, where she was assaulted in a schoolyard.
Tippett appeared by video in Peterborough court yesterday and requested a bail hearing, a step previously delayed by his lack of counsel. He is scheduled to appear in person on Thursday.
New charges were laid yesterday, including two counts of failing to stop at a stop sign and breaching a court order by contacting an individual on his no-contact list.
Crown attorney John Marsland added eight people to Tippett's no-contact list: his mother, Susan Anderson, his five children and his mistress, Felicia Neals. He was already banned from contacting his wife, Natalie Tippett, and about a dozen potential witnesses who cannot be identified because they are underage.
Natalie Tippett and Anderson last week alleged Tippett had called them repeatedly in the early hours of the morning, though both denied speaking with him.
Tippett was convicted of criminal harassment of a 21-year-old woman in 2005, and was a suspect in the 1999 murder of Toronto teen Sharmini Anandavel, though no charges were laid in that case.
