BELLEVILLE– A police officer in eastern Ontario has been found dead at his workplace.

The Belleville, Ont., officer was found dead at the city police station at about 8 a.m. today.

Police initially said the circumstances of the officer's death were unknown.

At a news conference, police later said they believe it was a suicide.

Belleville is approximately 185 kilometres east of Toronto.
