Sam George, the brother of slain aboriginal activist Dudley George, has been invested into the Order of Ontario.

George received the province's highest honour today in a ceremony at the Lieutenant Governor's Suite at the Ontario legislature.

Dudley George was shot and killed by a provincial police officer in September 1995 during an occupation of Ipperwash Provincial Park.

His brother Sam repeatedly called on the provincial government to hold an inquiry into the shooting, and it was finally launched in November 2003.

Lt.-Gov. David Onley says Sam George's quest for justice for his brother is an inspiration to all Ontarians.

George, who is suffering from lung and pancreatic cancer, says while he is moved by the award, his goal was always to respect and honour the memory of his brother.
