Some 150,000 Cogeco customers in Ontario are feeling frustrated after several hours without telephone service.

Cogeco (TSX: CCA) spokeswoman Marie Carrier says the outage was the result of a problem at Telus Corp. (TSX: T), which provides the communications company with its telephone interface.

Carrier says the problem has now been resolved, and that anyone still without service should have it back "within minutes."

While the problem may not have originated with Cogeco, they may feel the repercussions.

Cogeco customer Nick Reed, of North Bay, Ont., says he was without outgoing phone service for nearly six hours.

With a two-year-old son at home, Reed says he shudders to think what could have happened in an emergency and no cellphone for back up.

"If I hit 911, it wouldn't go anywhere," Reed said. "I am very frustrated with it, and am looking to switch providers."

A spokesperson at Telus said as soon as the company learned of the problem, they rerouted the customers to another switch and then reloaded the system's software.
