GREENWICH, N.Y.–An 18-year-old woman is accused of dropping her 5-week-old daughter head-first on the sidewalk and driving off drunk, leaving the baby behind.

Cambridge-Greenwich Police Chief George Bell says a witness called police, who located the mother, Krista Cherry. The baby, Madison Brown, was treated at Glens Falls Hospital for a head injury after the Friday night incident. Hospital spokesman Phil Kahn said the baby was in good condition Monday.

Cherry was charged with second-degree assault, endangering the welfare of a child and driving while intoxicated. She was arraigned and released on $500 bail.

Cherry's live-in boyfriend and father of the child, 21-year-old Brandon Brown, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and unlawfully dealing with a child for allegedly providing alcohol to Cherry.

Neither Cherry nor Brown have listed phone numbers and it was unclear if they had lawyers.
