KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – Eight Canadian soldiers have been injured in Afghanistan after their armoured vehicle struck an improvised explosive device north of Kandahar city.

Canadian Forces spokesperson, Maj. Jay Janzen says the soldiers were immediately airlifted to the Role 3 medical facility at Kandahar Airfield for treatment.

Janzen says all of those injured are reported to be in good condition and self-notified their families.

He says everyone is expected to make a full recovery.

The incident occurred Friday afternoon in the Arghandab district – the site of two battles with the Taliban over the past year.

Eleven Canadian soldiers have been killed by IEDs this year.
