What a glorious week to be a sports fan in Toronto.
It began on Sunday at the Rogers Centre with a thrilling Canadian Football League game pitting the Argonauts against the Edmonton Eskimos. Monday at York University was the opening day of the Rogers Cup, the annual professional tennis tournament, which this year features nine of the top 10 players in the world, including Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal
Last night the focus switched to soccer, with the "derby" match between Toronto FC and the Montreal Impact. And tomorrow night at BMO field, the Major League Soccer all-stars play an English Premiership side, West Ham United.
The Canadian Open golf tournament also begins tomorrow at Glen Abbey in Oakville. While defending champion Jim Furyk is the only player in the field who is ranked in the top 10 in the world, there are other recognizable names, including Fred Couples, Chris DiMarco, Retief Goosen, Canada's Mike Weir and Stephen Ames, and Anthony Kim, a rising young star.
Finally, this coming weekend the Blue Jays host the Seattle Mariners for a three-game series.
The only problem for multi-sport fans is making a choice: what to do on Sunday when the finals of the Rogers Cup, the closing round of the Canadian Open, and the Jays/Mariners game are all being played at the same time?
