Re:Diversity deficit lingers

at top, Nov. 26

Diversity at every level of society will be the only true measure of our country's efforts to maintain and expand the boundaries of our wonderful and visionary multicultural experience. The concerns and suggestions of the Star and Ratna Omidvar, president of the Maytree Foundation, are timely and worthy of our attention and support.

The road to diversity at the top levels of governance and administrative bodies is a relatively long and slow one. However, all three levels of governments can take the initiative to create a level playing field by using the appointed bodies of each government as a spring board to set the example and thus help speed up the process.

Such an approach and initiative by governments could help reduce stress in our diverse communities, increase the acceptability and credibility of government decisions and actions and could serve also as a signal to others to follow suit.

In the end, all of us can benefit from such actions. There is no downside to this, other than, maybe a muted reaction from some groups, who behave like it is their birthright to be in charge and wish to hang on to their entitlements.
