What many fail to understand (inexplicably) is that John Lennon's "bigger than Jesus" comments were words of observation, not bragging. He was describing the fact that pop culture was becoming greater than religious culture.

The Vatican's "forgiveness" exacerbates that misunderstanding. Intentionally or not, they failed to comprehend the true context and intent of Lennon's remarks. The forgiveness sounds dismissive and they avoid the larger, significant issue he was justifiably observing.
