Re:War, what is it good for?

Absolutely nothing, Letter Dec. 1

Nathan Borenstein is a pacifist and is entitled to his stand. We can all agree it is immoral to kill, but not all wars are immoral. Was World War II immoral? Ask the millions who were enslaved by Nazi Germany or Imperial Japan; ask the 6 million Jews who were slaughtered in the death camps; ask the millions more who have died since in "ethnic cleansing." A pacifist claims the high moral ground while accepting the privileges and protection our democratic society bestows, privileges and protection frequently won, or at least preserved, in war.

Until the world is free of evil mindedness, we need our General Hilliers, our brave soldiers and other armed forces folks.
