Comment standards

The Toronto Star reserves the right to review, edit, refuse or delete any comment.

Here's how to ensure your comments get published:

  • Stick to the point.
  • Do not copy material from other sources, except in brief quotes, with the source acknowledged.
  • Vigorously debate the ideas, but avoid personal attacks.
  • Do not make comments that are threatening, defamatory (for example: alleging criminal activity by an individual), obscene, profane, contain hate speech or degrade others.
  • Do not repeat a comment that you have already posted.

If you see a comment that appears to violate these guidelines, please click on the "Offensive" link for that comment, and our moderators will review it.

Your Screen Name will appear with any comments you post. You are welcome to use your real name as your Screen Name, but we advise against using personal information such as your address or phone number.

The Toronto Star reserves the right to reject any Screen Name that we consider to be offensive or potentially misleading.
